In-water survey of vessels attended by the Russian Maritime Register

Underwater examination of the hull, propulsion and steering gear and underwater fittings, attended by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping — in lieu of drydocking, with a photo and video record.

In-water survey of vessels

An in-water survey (IWS) replaces the drydock examination: divers inspect the underwater hull, the propulsion and steering gear and the underwater fittings while the vessel lies alongside. The owner confirms the vessel's class without taking her out of service and without the cost of docking. PKF Bolid holds a Certificate of Recognition from the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and carries out such work attended by a Register surveyor.

Our divers examine the shell plating, sea chests and valves, propellers, rudder blades, anodes and welded seams; where fouling obscures the surface, we clean it first. Every stage of the dive is recorded on photo and video, and the supervisor keeps voice contact with the diver over the umbilical. For the general view and hard-to-reach areas we deploy the RB-550 ROV. Dives are made in Kirby Morgan gear and hot-water suits.

We work on vessels and craft in Murmansk, Kola Bay and the waters of the Barents and White Seas — all year round, including through the polar night; mobilisation to other regions is agreed separately. On completion the client receives an RS-recognised method statement and a diving survey report with the supporting video material. We have a track record on the Prirazlomnaya offshore platform.

  • Survey afloat in lieu of drydocking — the vessel stays in service
  • Attended by an RS surveyor; Certificate of Recognition held
  • Shell plating, propulsion and steering gear, sea chests and anodes checked
  • RS-recognised method statement and diving survey report
  • Kirby Morgan gear, hot-water suits, RB-550 ROV
  • Murmansk and Kola Bay, all year round — winter included
