Underwater construction and repair of water intakes

Water intake structures — heads, suction pipelines, fish-protection and trash screens, supports and fixings — spend most of their service life underwater, out of sight from the shore. Over time they become fouled and silted and lose capacity, while steel and concrete break down under the current and corrosion. PKF Bolid carries out the full range of underwater work on such facilities: installation of new structures, cleaning, survey, repair and scheduled maintenance.

Before the work, divers carry out a video and photo survey to assess the condition of the head and the pipeline. Screens and walls are cleared of fouling and deposits with the cavitation unit and by jetting; repairs are made by underwater welding and cutting, with drilling and new fixings where required. Kirby Morgan gear, umbilicals and a decompression chamber make dives to 60 metres safe, and hot-water suits allow work in the cold water of the Barents and White Seas all year round.

We work in Murmansk, Kola Bay and across the region for water utilities and industrial plants; other regions by arrangement. In commercial diving since 1992. For emergencies the team mobilises immediately.
